Fall of the Soviet Union - History Between Ukraine & Russia (1917 - 1991)

In this third part, we cover the events between Ukraine's independence in 1917 and the fall of the soviet union in 1991. By March 1917, Ukraine had achieved the independence that it had strived for so long. The struggle, however, was far from over. The Bolsheviks tried to take power throughout Ukraine by taking control of the soviets or worker’s councils across the country. They then sent in the army. Russian troops advance on Kyiv from the north and west. By the end of 1919, the Ukrainian army had been virtually defeated by the Bolsheviks. But, although the Bolsheviks controlled large industrial cities of the Ukrainian steppe, they were unable to control the country as a whole. In 1928, Stalin implemented the first of his 5-year plans of collectivization. It forced millions of Ukrainian villagers to leave their natural habitat and join collective farms. By March 1930, 70 percent of arable land had been collectivized. A terrible consequence of the collectivization policy was famine. In 1932, 80,000 people died of hunger in the Kyiv region alone. Still, Stalin refused to even acknowledge the famine, let alone offer any assistance. By the end of 1933, Kyiv and Kharkiv had each lost a million people to starvation. ____________________________________________________ SUBSCRIBE! ____________________________________________________ CHAPTERS 0:00 Introduction 0:01 MARCH OF 1917 Ukraine Independence 0:13 UKRAINIAN PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC (UPR) 0:24 BOLSHEVIKS SEIZE POWER IN PETROGRAD, 1917 2:48 UKRAINE SOCIALIST SOVIET REPUBLIC 24 AUGUST 1991 3:41 1,700 PEASANT REVOLTS 5:19 NAZIS FACING DEFEAT IN THE BATTLE OF KURSK IN JULY 1943 6:11 NIKITA KHRUSHCHEV 6:26 1954 TRANSFER OF CRIMEA 7:01 MIKHAEL GORBACHOV 7:14 POLICIES OF PERESTROIKA 8:01 UKRAINIAN GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH IN THE SOVIET UNION 8:07 JANUARY 21ST, 1990 HUMAN CHAIN 8:14 OCTOBER 1990 - REVOLUTION ON GRANITE 8:51 AUGUST 24TH, 1991 UKRAINIAN PARLIAMENT ADOPTED THE ACT OF INDEPENDENCE 8:56 THE ACT OF DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OF UKRAINE 9:03 1991 UKRAINIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 9:09 LEONID KRAVCHUK THE COUNTRY'S FIRST PRESIDENT 9:25 BORIS YELTSIN ____________________________________________________ Welcome to History Simplified, the most simple animated history channel on YouTube.
